Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Program

Due to staff changes this year at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the opening of the Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency's 2024 HHW program has taken longer than expected. We hope to officially open this program within the next week. Once we receive a validated, approved registration from NYSDEC, we will immediately open registration for the first event of the year, planned for Saturday April 27 in New Paltz. Appointments are required. The Agency plans to host four HHW collection events this year: on April 27 and in August at 1 Clearwater Road in New Paltz; and in June and October at 999 Flatbush Road/Route 32 in the Town of Ulster. Check ucrra.org for updates.

Electronics Recycling

Free electronics recycling is held every Saturday from April through November, from 8 a.m. to noon at the UCRRA’s main office, 999 Flatbush Road/Route 32, Town of Ulster. No appointment is required. A list of items that are accepted and not accepted is posted at ucrra.org/waste-recycling/electronics

Bagged Compost Sales

The UCRRA’s bagged compost season runs from April through November in conjunction with the agency’s electronics recycling program. The UCRRA now offers its Grow Ulster Green Compost in 1-cubic-foot bags for $5 per bag. Please note: Bagged compost must be pre-ordered during the week at ucrra.org/purchase-compost and picked up on Saturdays.

Compost Bin & Rain Barrel Sale

The UCRRA is accepting pre-orders for the annual compost bin and rain barrel sale. Residents can pre-order online at ucrra.org/event/spring-compost-bin-sale-2024 and pick up their supplies at our bin distribution day, Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the UCRRA main office, 999 Flatbush Road/Route 32, Town of Ulster.

Master Composter-Recycler (MCR) Volunteer Program

We are actively recruiting for our Class of 2024 MCR volunteer training and certification program. Participants will receive 20 hours of free professional development and join a cohort of citizens who then are offered volunteer opportunities with our Recycling Outreach Team. For more info, go to ucrra.org/volunteer.
